AN ACT CONCERNING A STUDY OF HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE OF AND OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES FOR EPINEPHRINE PENS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (Effective from passage) The Insurance Commissioner shall study and report on the health insurance coverage of and out-of-pocket expenses for automatic prefilled cartridge injectors or similar automatic injectable equipment used to deliver epinephrine in a standard dose for emergency first aid response to allergic reactions, for health insurance policies and health benefit plans delivered, issued for delivery, renewed, amended or continued in this state. Such study shall include, but not be limited to, the classification of such injectors under such policies or plans, the out-of-pocket expenses charged to an insured under such policies or plans and investigation of existing opportunities and possible ways to assist individuals in procuring such injectors at a reduced cost. Not later than January 1, 2017, the commissioner shall submit a report on the findings of such study, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to insurance.

To require a study and report of health insurance coverage of and out-of-pocket expenses for epinephrine pens.
