AN ACT EXEMPTING MUNICIPALITIES FROM LIABILITY FOR INJURIES SUSTAINED BY PERSONS WHILE USING MUNICIPAL LANDS FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That sections 52-557f and 52-557g of the general statutes be amended to broaden the exemption from liability afforded to municipalities for injuries sustained by persons who are using municipal lands for recreational purposes so as to: (1) Expand the definition of "land" to include swimming pools, playing fields or courts, and playgrounds, thereby providing municipalities with increased protection from civil lawsuits, and (2) extend the level of protection afforded to municipalities in this area of the law to be more akin to the sovereign immunity enjoyed by the state in providing state lands to residents for recreational purposes.

Statement of Purpose:

To expand the municipal exemption from liability under the state's recreational land use statutes.
