AN ACT ESTABLISHING BIFURCATED TRIALS FOR NEGLIGENCE ACTIONS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 900 of the general statutes be amended to provide that the court may order that any negligence action that is to be tried to a jury may be bifurcated, such that during the first phase of the trial the jury shall make a determination on the issue of negligence and, if negligence is found, the second phase of the trial shall address the issue of damages.

Statement of Purpose: 

To establish a bifurcated trial system for negligence actions.
