3232 AN ACT CONCERNING MANDATE RELIEF FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

3434 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

3636 That title 10 of the general statutes be amended to (1) grant a waiver to a local or regional board of education from the requirement that such board provide one hundred eighty days of actual school sessions for grades kindergarten to twelve, inclusive, and nine hundred hours of actual school work for full-day kindergarten and grades one to twelve, inclusive, if such board develops an alternative plan relating to the number of school sessions and hours of school work, (2) permit a local or regional board of education to hire a person who is an expert in a specific subject area, but not a certified teacher, to teach a high school course in limited circumstances, and (3) provide more discretion to local and regional boards of education in establishing the curriculum for the school district, setting policies for the suspension of students and developing assessments for measuring student progress.
