AN ACT ESTABLISHING A STATE-WIDE EDUCATION PROPERTY TAX SYSTEM IN LIEU OF THE CURRENT PROPERTY TAX SYSTEM.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to establish a state-wide education property tax system, modeled after Vermont's homestead and nonresidential education property taxes and based on the amount towns spend on education per pupil, to replace the current property tax system.

Statement of Purpose: 

To equalize funding for education among towns and to adequately fund education.
