AN ACT CONCERNING THE TEACHING OF CIVICS IN PUBLIC
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
That section 10-16b of the general statutes be amended to require 1
that the social studies curriculum of the prescribed courses of study for 2
public schools include the teaching of civics, citizenship and 3
government beginning in elementary school. 4
Statement of Purpose:
To increase young citizens' understanding of how government
operates by requiring the teaching of civics, citizenship and
government beginning in elementary school.
