20	20		AN ACT EXTENDING THE PERIOD A CHILD, STEPCHILD OR OTHER
21	21		DEPENDENT CHILD MAY RETAIN DENTAL INSURA NCE COVERAGE
22	22		UNDER A PARENT'S HEA LTH INSURANCE POLICY .
23	23		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
24	24		Assembly convened:

26	26		Section 1. Section 38a-497 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1
27	27		following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective January 1, 2020): 2
28	28		(a) Each individual health insurance policy providing coverage of 3
29	29		the type specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (6), (10), (11) and (12) of 4
30	30		section 38a-469 delivered, issued for delivery, amended, renewed or 5
31	31		continued in this state shall provide that coverage of a child, stepchild 6
32	32		or other dependent child shall terminate [no] not earlier than the 7
33	33		policy anniversary date on or after whichever of the following occurs 8
34	34		first, the date on which the child, [:] stepchild or other dependent child: 9
35	35		(1) Becomes covered under a group health plan through the 10
36	36		[dependent's] child's, stepchild's or other dependent child's own 11
37	37		employment; or (2) attains the age of twenty-six. 12
38	38		(b) Each individual health insurance policy described in subsection 13
39	39		(a) of this section, and each individual health insurance policy 14 Committee Bill No. 5627

46	46		providing coverage of the type specified in subdivision (16) of section 15
47	47		38a-469 delivered, issued for delivery, amended, renewed or continued 16
48	48		in this state, that includes or provides dental coverage shall provide 17
49	49		that dental coverage of a child, stepchild or other dependent child shall 18
50	50		terminate not earlier than the policy anniversary date on or after 19
51	51		whichever of the following occurs first, the date on which the child, 20
52	52		stepchild or other dependent child: (1) Becomes covered under a group 21
53	53		health plan through the child's, stepchild's or other dependent child's 22
54	54		own employment; or (2) attains the age of twenty-six. 23
55	55		(c) Each [such] policy subject to this section shall cover a stepchild 24
56	56		or other dependent child on the same basis as a biological child. 25
57	57		Sec. 2. Section 38a-512b of the general statutes is repealed and the 26
58	58		following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective January 1, 2020): 27
59	59		(a) Each group health insurance policy providing coverage of the 28
60	60		type specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (6), (10), (11) and (12) of 29
61	61		section 38a-469 delivered, issued for delivery, amended, renewed or 30
62	62		continued in this state shall provide that coverage of a child, stepchild 31
63	63		or other dependent child shall terminate [no] not earlier than the 32
64	64		policy anniversary date on or after whichever of the following occurs 33
65	65		first, the date on which the child, [:] stepchild or other dependent child: 34
66	66		(1) Becomes covered under a group health plan through the 35
67	67		[dependent's] child's, stepchild's or other dependent child's own 36
68	68		employment; or (2) attains the age of twenty-six. 37
69	69		(b) Each group health insurance policy described in subsection (a) of 38
70	70		this section, and each group health insurance policy providing 39
71	71		coverage of the type specified in subdivision (16) of section 38a-469 40
72	72		delivered, issued for delivery, amended, renewed or continued in this 41
73	73		state, that includes or provides dental coverage shall provide that 42
74	74		dental coverage of a child, stepchild or other dependent child shall 43
75	75		terminate not earlier than the policy anniversary date on or after 44
76	76		whichever of the following occurs first, the date on which the child, 45

86	86		(c) Each [such] policy subject to this section shall cover a stepchild 49
