1818 AN ACT CONCERNING SOCIAL MEDIA SITES.
1919 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2020 Assembly convened:

2222 That section 42-288a of the general statutes be amended to require 1
2323 that a social media site operating in this state offer an opt-out option 2
2424 for the site's user, such that the user may determine whether or not he 3
2525 or she consents to the social media site accessing the user's personal 4
2626 contact list for reasons of engaging in unsolicited marketing to the 5
2727 user's contacts, irrespective of whether the user is a subscriber or 6
2828 nonsubscriber of the social media site. 7
2929 Statement of Purpose:
3030 To protect a consumer from having his or her personal contacts
3131 accessed by a social media site in order to generate unsolicited
3232 marketing to the consumer's contacts.
