21	20		AN ACT CONCERNING BA LLOTS USED AT POLLING PLAC ES THAT
22	21		SERVE MULTIPLE VOTIN G DISTRICTS.
23	22		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
24	23		Assembly convened:

26	25		Section 1. Section 9-250 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1
27	26		following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2019): 2
28	27		Ballots shall be furnished by the registrar of voters and shall be 3
29	28		printed (1) in plain clear type, and (2) on material of such size as will 4
30	29		fit the tabulator [, and shall be furnished by the registrar of voters] and, 5
31	30		in the case of ballots used at a single polling place designated to serve 6
32	31		multiple voting districts, of such color as to differentiate the ballots for 7
33	32		each voting district from the ballots for each other voting district. The 8
34	33		size and style of the type used to print the name of a political party on 9
35	34		a ballot shall be identical with the size and style of the type used to 10
36	35		print the names of all other political parties appearing on such ballot. 11
37	36		The name of each major party candidate for a municipal office, as 12
38	37		defined in section 9-372, except for the municipal offices of state 13
39	38		senator and state representative, shall appear on the ballot as 14

47	45		for a state or district office, as defined in section 9-372, or for the 16
48	46		municipal office of state senator or state representative shall appear on 17
49	47		the ballot as it appears on the certificate or statement of consent filed 18
50	48		under section 9-388, subsection (b) of section 9-391, or section 9-400 or 19
51	49		9-409. The name of each minor party candidate shall appear on the 20
52	50		ballot as authorized by each candidate. The name of each nominating 21
53	51		petition candidate shall appear on the ballot as it is verified by the 22
54	52		town clerk on the application filed under section 9-453b. The size and 23
55	53		style of the type used to print the name of a candidate on a ballot shall 24
56	54		be identical with the size and style of the type used to print the names 25
57	55		of all other candidates appearing on such ballot. Such ballot shall 26
58	56		contain the names of the offices and the names of the candidates 27
59	57		arranged thereon. The names of the political parties and party 28
60	58		designations shall be arranged on the ballots and followed by the word 29
61	59		"party", either in columns or horizontal rows as set forth in section 9-30
62	60		249a, immediately adjacent to the column or row occupied by the 31
63	61		candidate or candidates of such political party or organization. The 32
64	62		ballot shall be printed in such manner as to indicate how many 33
65	63		candidates the elector may vote for each office, provided in the case of 34
66	64		a town adopting the provisions of section 9-204a, such ballot shall 35
67	65		indicate the maximum number of candidates who may be elected to 36
68	66		such office from any party. If two or more candidates are to be elected 37
69	67		to the same office for different terms, the term for which each is 38
70	68		nominated shall be printed on the official ballot as a part of the title of 39
71	69		the office. If, at any election, one candidate is to be elected for a full 40
72	70		term and another to fill a vacancy, the official ballot containing the 41
73	71		names of the candidates in the foregoing order shall, as a part of the 42
74	72		title of the office, designate the term which such candidates are 43
75	73		severally nominated to fill. No column, under the name of any political 44
76	74		party or independent organization, shall be printed on any official 45
77	75		ballot, which contains more candidates for any office than the number 46
