AN ACT CONCERNING LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT FOR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING CHILDREN. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to (1) ensure that the 1 Department of Public Health, Office of Early Childhood and 2 Department of Education collect and share data to ensure that deaf, 3 hard of hearing and deaf-blind students have the necessary language 4 skills to acquire knowledge that will allow them to be successful in 5 school and after graduation, (2) establish a working group on language 6 assessment within the Department of Education to advise agencies on 7 appropriate language assessments, practices and programs, and (3) 8 ensure that interventions happen immediately if a student does not 9 demonstrate progress in age-appropriate expressive and receptive 10 language skills. 11 Statement of Purpose: To identify, assess and monitor the progress of deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind children from the time of identification of hearing levels through high school.
