12	19		AN ACT REQUIRING A STUDY OF THE PREVALENCE OF TH E
13	20		HEPATITIS C VIRUS IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITU TIONS AND
14	21		FACILITIES.
15	22		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
16	23		Assembly convened:

18	25		Section 1. (Effective October 1, 2019) The Department of Correction, in 1
19	26		collaboration with the Department of Public Health, the Insurance 2
20	27		Department and the Comptroller, shall study the prevalence of 3
21	28		inmates in correctional institutions and facilities with the hepatitis C 4
22		-	virus. Such study shall include, but need not be limited to, the (1) 5
23		-	screening of inmates for the hepatitis C virus, (2) feasibility of 6
24		-	treatment of inmates who test positive for the virus, (3) health 7
25		-	outcomes of such inmates, (4) cost of and insurance coverage for such 8
26		-	treatment, and (5) feasibility of leveraging available federal funds to 9
27		-	cover the cost of such treatment. Not later than January 1, 2020, the 10
28		-	Commissioner of Correction shall report, in accordance with the 11
29		-	provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, regarding the 12
30		-	findings of such study. 13
