1919 AN ACT CONCERNING CO NTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS FO R
2020 INSURANCE PRODUCERS.
2121 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2222 Assembly convened:

2424 Section 1. Section 38a-782a of the general statutes is repealed and 1
2525 the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2019): 2
2626 The commissioner may adopt regulations in accordance with 3
2727 chapter 54 [relating to the establishment of] to establish continuing 4
2828 education requirements for persons licensed as insurance producers, 5
2929 provided: [the] 6
3030 (1) The commissioner shall suspend such requirements for any 7
3131 person who is a public official during the period such person serves as 8
3232 a public official, if the person is prohibited from selling insurance 9
3333 during that period. As used in this [section] subdivision, "public 10
3434 official" means any state-wide elected officer, any member or member-11
3535 elect of the General Assembly, or a senator or representative in 12
3636 Congress. 13

4343 insurance producer earn six or more hours of continuing education 15
4444 credit during any two-year period, the commissioner shall grant at 16
4545 least six hours of continuing education credit to such person if such 17
4646 person is an active member of a state-wide professional insurance 18
4747 producer association during such period, provided the association 19
4848 provides the commissioner or the commissioner's designee such 20
4949 association's active membership information for such two-year period. 21
5050 As used in this subdivision: 22
5151 (A) "State-wide professional insurance producer association" means 23
5252 an association that (i) has existed for ten or more years, (ii) derives its 24
5353 membership from persons licensed as insurance producers in this 25
5454 state, and (iii) is dedicated to promoting the integrity, trustworthiness, 26
5555 professionalism and business interests of its members through 27
5656 education, advocacy, social interaction and the development of sound 28
5757 business practices; and 29
5858 (B) "Active member" means a person licensed as an insurance 30
5959 producer in this state who certifies to the commissioner, for the 31
6060 applicable two-year period, that such person (i) was a member in good 32
6161 standing of a state-wide professional insurance producer association, 33
6262 (ii) attended at least one educational meeting, presentation or 34
6363 conference sponsored by the state-wide professional insurance 35
6464 producer association during such two-year period, and (iii) read all 36
6565 ethical standards applicable to such person in such person's capacity as 37
6666 a licensed insurance producer. 38
6767 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
