19	19	AN ACT CONCERNING AC CESS BY NURSING HOME RESIDEN TS TO
20	20	COMMUNITY TRANSPORTA TION.
21	21	Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
22	22	Assembly convened:

24	24	Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2019) For purposes of this section, 1
25	25	"provider of public transportation" means any motor bus, taxicab or 2
26	26	motor vehicle in livery service regulated by the Commissioner of 3
27	27	Transportation pursuant to title 13b of the general statutes or any 4
28	28	municipally operated vehicle that serves elderly persons or persons 5
29	29	with disabilities. No provider of public transportation with a route 6
30	30	serving an area that includes a nursing home, as defined in section 19a-7
31	31	490 of the general statutes, shall refuse to provide a resident of a 8
32	32	nursing home with transportation or limit destination choices within 9
33	33	their routes for such resident, provided (1) the nursing home resident 10
34	34	provides a current certification signed by a health care professional 11
35	35	licensed pursuant to chapter 370 of the general statutes that travel 12
36	36	outside of the nursing home is not medically contraindicated for the 13
37	37	resident, (2) the provider of public transportation has a vehicle 14
38	38	equipped to serve the transportation needs of nursing home residents 15
39	39	with physical disabilities, and (3) the nursing home resident pays any 16 Raised Bill No. 7234

45	45	reasonable fare set by the provider of public transportation. 17
46	46	This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following

52	52	To allow nursing home residents equal access to public transportation
53	53	services in order to achieve equal and inclusive community
54	54	participation of such residents and prevent discrimination based on
55	55	nursing home residency status.
