LCO No. 5029 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 7273 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 5029 Referred to Committee on LABOR AND PUBLIC EMPLOYEES Introduced by: (LAB) AN ACT CONCERNING A STUDY OF INTERNSHIPS AND STUD ENT TEACHING IN COLLEGE ENVIRONMENTS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective July 1, 2019) The Labor Commissioner, or the 1 Labor Commissioner's authorized agent, shall study the use of student 2 interns and student teachers in institutions of higher education in the 3 state. Such study shall include, but need not be limited to, whether 4 such interns and student teachers should be paid uniform stipends or 5 hourly wages and whether there should be limits placed on the 6 number of hours worked on a weekly basis by such interns and 7 student teachers. On or before July 1, 2020, the Labor Commissioner 8 shall report, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the 9 general statutes, the findings of such study to the joint standing 10 committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters 11 relating to higher education and employment advancement and labor. 12 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Raised Bill No. 7273 LCO No. 5029 2 of 2 Section 1 July 1, 2019 New section Statement of Purpose: To require the Labor Commissioner to conduct a study regarding student internships and student teaching in college environments.
