Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective October 1, 2019) (a) The Commissioner of Public 1 Health, in consultation with The University of Connecticut School of 2 Public Health, shall conduct a study of female genital mutilation in this 3 state, in accordance with subsection (b) of this section, and report the 4 results of such study in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a 5 of the general statutes to the joint standing committees of the General 6 Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to the judiciary and 7 public health not later than February 3, 2020. 8 (b) As part of such study, the Commissioner of Public Health shall 9 identify any public health interventions that might result in the 10 elimination of any procedure conducted as part of the practice of 11 female genital mutilation, by evaluating peer-reviewed medical 12 literature concerning the practice in the United States and destination 13 countries.
