2222 CHILDREN OF PERMANEN TLY DISABLED VETERANS AT PUBLIC

2424 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General

2727 Section 1. Subsection (d) of section 10a-77 of the general statutes is 1
2828 repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2

3030 (d) Said board of trustees shall waive the payment of tuition at any of 4
3131 the regional community-technical colleges (1) for any dependent child 5
3232 of a person whom the armed forces of the United States has declared to 6
3333 be missing in action or to have been a prisoner of war while serving in 7
3434 such armed forces after January 1, 1960, which child has been accepted 8
3535 for admission to such institution and is a resident of the state at the time 9
3636 such child is accepted for admission to such institution, (2) subject to the 10
3737 provisions of subsection (e) of this section, for any (A) veteran who 11
3838 performed service in time of war, as defined in section 27-103, or (B) 12
3939 person with a qualifying condition, as defined in said section, who has 13

4646 service in the armed forces and who performed service in time of war, 15
4747 except that for purposes of this subsection, "service in time of war" shall 16
4848 not include time spent in attendance at a military service academy, 17
4949 which veteran or person has been accepted for admission to such 18
5050 institution and is domiciled in this state at the time such veteran or 19
5151 person is accepted for admission to such institution, (3) for any resident 20
5252 of the state sixty-two years of age or older, provided, at the end of the 21
5353 regular registration period, there are enrolled in the course a sufficient 22
5454 number of students other than those residents eligible for waivers 23
5555 pursuant to this subdivision to offer the course in which such resident 24
5656 intends to enroll and there is space available in such course after 25
5757 accommodating all such students, (4) for any student attending the 26
5858 Connecticut State Police Academy who is enrolled in a law enforcement 27
5959 program at said academy offered in coordination with a regional 28
6060 community-technical college which accredits courses taken in such 29
6161 program, (5) for any active member of the Connecticut Army or Air 30
6262 National Guard who (A) has been certified by the Adjutant General or 31
6363 such Adjutant General's designee as a member in good standing of the 32
6464 guard, and (B) is enrolled or accepted for admission to such institution 33
6565 on a full-time or part-time basis in an undergraduate degree-granting 34
6666 program, (6) for any dependent child of a (A) police officer, as defined 35
6767 in section 7-294a, or supernumerary or auxiliary police officer, (B) 36
6868 firefighter, as defined in section 7-323j, or member of a volunteer fire 37
6969 company, (C) municipal employee, or (D) state employee, as defined in 38
7070 section 5-154, killed in the line of duty, (7) for any resident of the state 39
7171 who is a dependent child or surviving spouse of a specified terrorist 40
7272 victim who was a resident of this state, (8) for any dependent child of a 41
7373 resident of the state who was killed in a multivehicle crash at or near the 42
7474 intersection of Routes 44 and 10 and Nod Road in Avon on July 29, 2005, 43
7575 [and] (9) for any resident of the state who is a dependent child or 44
7676 surviving spouse of a person who was killed in action while performing 45
7777 active military duty with the armed forces of the United States on or 46
7878 after September 11, 2001, and who was a resident of this state, and (10) 47
7979 for any resident of the state who is a dependent child or surviving 48

8686 determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, for an 50
8787 injury incurred while performing active military duty with the armed 51
8888 forces of the United States and who is a resident of the state, provided 52
8989 any waiver of tuition under this subdivision shall be for tuition in excess 53
9090 of any assistance received by such resident pursuant to the Survivors' 54
9191 and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program of said department. 55
9292 If any person who receives a tuition waiver in accordance with the 56
9393 provisions of this subsection also receives educational reimbursement 57
9494 from an employer, such waiver shall be reduced by the amount of such 58
9595 educational reimbursement. Veterans and persons described in 59
9696 subdivision (2) of this subsection and members of the National Guard 60
9797 described in subdivision (5) of this subsection shall be given the same 61
9898 status as students not receiving tuition waivers in registering for courses 62
9999 at regional community-technical colleges. Notwithstanding the 63
100100 provisions of section 10a-30, as used in this subsection, "domiciled in 64
101101 this state" includes domicile for less than one year. 65
102102 Sec. 2. Subsection (d) of section 10a-99 of the general statutes is 66

145145 member of a volunteer fire company, (C) municipal employee, or (D) 104
146146 state employee, as defined in section 5-154, killed in the line of duty, (7) 105
147147 for any resident of this state who is a dependent child or surviving 106
148148 spouse of a specified terrorist victim who was a resident of the state, (8) 107
149149 for any dependent child of a resident of the state who was killed in a 108
150150 multivehicle crash at or near the intersection of Routes 44 and 10 and 109
151151 Nod Road in Avon on July 29, 2005, [and] (9) for any resident of the state 110
152152 who is a dependent child or surviving spouse of a person who was 111

191191 person with a qualifying condition, as defined in said section, who has 145
