AN ACT PERMITTING FAMILY MEMBERS TO PETITION FOR 
MANDATORY ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF CERTAIN 
INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE ABUSING DRUGS OR ALCOHOL. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That the general statutes be amended to permit a family member to 1 
petition the courts for mandatory assessment and treatment of an 2 
individual twenty-five years of age or younger who is abusing drugs or 3 
alcohol and appears to be a danger to himself or herself or others. 4 
Statement of Purpose:   
To allow a family member to petition the courts for mandatory 
assessment and treatment of an individual twenty-five years of age or 
younger who is abusing drugs or alcohol and appears to be a danger to 
himself or herself or others.
