AN ACT PERMITTING MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION BY TELEPHONE FOLLOWING A TRAFFIC STOP. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 246 of the general statutes be amended to permit an 1 owner of a motor vehicle to renew a motor vehicle registration by 2 telephone with the Department Motor Vehicles when stopped by a 3 police officer for failure to renew such motor vehicle registration. 4 Statement of Purpose: To permit an owner of a motor vehicle, who may not have received a notice to renew his or her motor vehicle registration by mail from the Department of Motor Vehicles, to renew the registration by telephone when stopped by a police officer for failure to renew the registration and allow such owner to avoid fines and seizure or impoundment of the motor vehicle.
