1818 AN ACT CONCERNING THE TEACHING OF CIVICS, DIGITAL
1919 CITIZENSHIP AND MEDIA LITERACY IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
2020 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2121 Assembly convened:

2323 That title 10 of the general statutes be amended to implement the 1
2424 recommendations of the Digital Citizenship, Internet Safety and Media 2
2525 Literacy Advisory Council, established pursuant to section 10-7v of the 3
2626 general statutes, including that local and regional boards of education 4
2727 create curricula that identify the essential skills and knowledge students 5
2828 must acquire and demonstrate regarding digital citizenship, Internet 6
2929 safety and media literacy; and further that section 10-16b of the general 7
3030 statutes be amended to require that the social studies curriculum of the 8
3131 prescribed courses of study for public schools include the teaching of 9
3232 civics, digital citizenship and media literacy beginning in grade three. 10
3333 Statement of Purpose:
3434 To (1) increase young citizens' understanding of how government
3535 operates by requiring the teaching of civics, digital citizenship and
3636 media literacy beginning in grade three, (2) help create more astute
3737 consumers of the news by educating students on how to discern Proposed Bill No. 6359

4343 students in the uses and misuses of social media platforms.
