Explanation
The bill requires the Department of Transportation (DOT), in
collaboration with other agencies, to 1) establish a program to test and
operate automated driving system (ADS) equipped vehicles and 2)
adopt regulations establishing program requirements, including a new
application and permit process for joining the program. The bill is not
expected to result in a fiscal impact because DOT has the expertise to
adopt the relevant regulations and to review applications that are
received as part of the program.
