920 AN ACT CONCERNING DE NTAL AND VISION INSURANCE
1021 COVERAGE FOR CHILDRE N, STEPCHILDREN AND OTHER
1122 DEPENDENT CHILDREN.
1223 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
1324 Assembly convened:

15-Section 1. Section 38a-497 of the general statutes is repealed and the
16-following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective January 1, 2022):
17-(a) Each individual health insurance policy providing coverage of the
18-type specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (6), (10), (11) and (12) of section
19-38a-469 delivered, issued for delivery, amended, renewed or continued
20-in this state shall provide that coverage of a child, stepchild or other
21-dependent child shall terminate [no] not earlier than the policy
22-anniversary date [on or] after [whichever of the following occurs first,]
23-the date on which the child, [: Becomes covered under a group health
24-plan through the dependent's own employment; or] stepchild or other
25-dependent child attains the age of twenty-six.
26-(b) Each individual health insurance policy described in subsection
27-(a) of this section, and each individual health insurance policy providing
28-coverage of the type specified in subdivision (16) of section 38a-469
29-delivered, issued for delivery, amended, renewed or continued in this
30-state, that includes or provides dental or vision coverage shall provide Senate Bill No. 1004

32+dependent child shall terminate [no] not earlier than the policy 7
33+anniversary date on or after whichever of the following occurs first, the 8
34+date on which the child, stepchild or other dependent child: (1) Becomes 9
35+covered under a group health plan through the [dependent's] child's, 10
36+stepchild's or other dependent child's own employment; or (2) attains 11
37+the age of twenty-six. 12
38+(b) Each individual health insurance policy described in subsection 13 Raised Bill No. 1004

34-that dental or vision coverage of a child, stepchild or other dependent
35-child shall terminate not earlier than the policy anniversary date after
36-the date on which the child, stepchild or other dependent child attains
37-the age of twenty-six.
38-(c) Each [such] policy subject to this section shall cover a stepchild or
39-other dependent child on the same basis as a biological child.
40-Sec. 2. Section 38a-512b of the general statutes is repealed and the
41-following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective January 1, 2022):
42-(a) Each group health insurance policy providing coverage of the type
43-specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (6), (10), (11) and (12) of section 38a-
44-469 delivered, issued for delivery, amended, renewed or continued in
45-this state shall provide that coverage of a child, stepchild or other
46-dependent child shall terminate [no] not earlier than the policy
47-anniversary date [on or] after [whichever of the following occurs first,]
48-the date on which the child, [: Becomes covered under a group health
49-plan through the dependent's own employment; or] stepchild or other
50-dependent child attains the age of twenty-six.
51-(b) Each group health insurance policy described in subsection (a) of
52-this section, and each group health insurance policy providing coverage
53-of the type specified in subdivision (16) of section 38a-469 delivered,
54-issued for delivery, amended, renewed or continued in this state, that
55-includes or provides dental or vision coverage shall provide that dental
56-or vision coverage of a child, stepchild or other dependent child shall
57-terminate not earlier than the policy anniversary date after the date on
58-which the child, stepchild or other dependent child attains the age of
59-twenty-six.
60-(c) Each [such] policy subject to this section shall cover a stepchild or
61-other dependent child on the same basis as a biological child.
