1919 AN ACT CONCERNING CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND LAW

2121 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General

2424 Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2023) For the fiscal year ending June 1
2525 30, 2024, and each fiscal year thereafter, the Commissioner of 2
2626 Emergency Services and Public Protection shall establish a grant 3
2727 program to provide funding to any municipality that seeks to hold a 4
2828 special needs day that allows children with special needs to interact 5
2929 with public safety personnel and learn about public safety issues. Not 6
3030 later than October 1, 2023, the Department of Emergency Services and 7
3131 Public Protection shall post in a conspicuous place on the department's 8
3232 Internet web site a description of the grant program, including, but not 9
3333 limited to, eligibility criteria and the application process for the 10
3434 program. A municipality shall apply for such grants on such forms and 11
3535 in such manner as determined by the department. 12
3636 Sec. 2. (Effective July 1, 2023) For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, 13
3737 the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection shall 14

4444 barracks of the Division of State Police within the Department of 16
4545 Emergency Services and Public Protection to allow at least one police 17
4646 patrol vehicle at each such unit and barracks to be equipped with a 18
4747 special needs sensory kit. Such kits shall include items that help 19
4848 individuals with special needs cope with their emotions and manage 20
4949 stress during emergencies or other interactions with police officers. 21
5050 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
