19	20		AN ACT DESIGNATING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY AS A LEGAL

21	22		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
22	23		Assembly convened:

24	25		Section 1. Section 1-4 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1
25	26		following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2024): 2
26	27		In each year the first day of January (known as New Year's Day), the 3
27	28		fifteenth day of January of each year prior to 1986, and commencing on 4
28	29		the twentieth day of January in 1986, the first Monday occurring on or 5
29	30		after January fifteenth (known as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), the 6
30	31		twelfth day of February (known as Lincoln Day), the third Monday in 7
31	32		February (known as Washington's Birthday), the last Monday in May 8
32	33		(known as Memorial Day or Decoration Day), the nineteenth day of June 9
33	34		(known as Juneteenth Independence Day), the fourth day of July 10
34	35		(known as Independence Day), the first Monday in September (known 11
35	36		as Labor Day), the second Monday in October (known as Columbus 12
36	37		Day), the eleventh day of November (known as Veterans' Day), the ____ 13
37		-	day of ____ (known as Indigenous Peoples' Day) and the twenty-fifth 14 Bill No. 388

42	44		day of December (known as Christmas) and any day appointed or 15
43	45		recommended by the Governor of this state or the President of the 16
44	46		United States as a day of thanksgiving, fasting or religious observance, 17
45	47		shall each be a legal holiday, except that whenever any of such days 18
46	48		which are not designated to occur on Monday, occurs upon a Sunday, 19
47	49		the Monday next following such day shall be a legal holiday and 20
48	50		whenever any of such days occurs upon a Saturday, the Friday 21
49	51		immediately preceding such day shall be a legal holiday. When any 22
50	52		such holiday, except holidays in January and December, occurs on a 23
51	53		school day, each local and regional board of education may close the 24
52	54		public schools under its jurisdiction for such day or hold a session of the 25
53	55		public schools on such day, provided, if a session is held, the board shall 26
54	56		require each school to hold a suitable nonsectarian educational program 27
55	57		in observance of such holiday. If a holiday in January or December 28
56	58		occurs on a school day, there shall be no session of the public schools on 29
57	59		such day. 30
