1818 AN ACT CONCERNING PENALTIES FOR SPEEDING AND RECKLESS

2020 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2121 Assembly convened:

2323 That (1) sections 14-111, 14-137a and 14-222 of the general statutes be 1
2424 amended to provide that (A) any person who operates a motor vehicle 2
2525 at a rate of speed greater than eighty-six miles per hour, but not greater 3
2626 than ninety-nine miles per hour, shall be fined not less than five 4
2727 hundred dollars and assessed two points against the person's motor 5
2828 vehicle operator's license; and (B) any person who operates a motor 6
2929 vehicle at a rate of speed greater than ninety-nine miles per hour shall 7
3030 be fined not less than one thousand dollars and assessed four points 8
3131 against the person's operator's license and the Commissioner of Motor 9
3232 Vehicles shall, without hearing, suspend such person's operator's 10
3333 license or privilege to operate a motor vehicle for a period of thirty days; 11
3434 (2) subsection (b) of section 14-111 of the general statutes be amended to 12
3535 require the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles to suspend, without 13
3636 hearing, a person's operator's license or privilege to operate a motor 14
3737 vehicle for a violation of section 14-222 of the general statutes, for a 15 Proposed Bill No. 5059

4242 period of ninety days; and (3) sections 14-111 and 14-111b of the general 16
4343 statutes be amended to require the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles to 17
4444 suspend, without hearing, a person's operator's license or privilege to 18
4545 operate a motor vehicle for a second or subsequent violation of section 19
4646 14-219 or 14-222 of the general statutes within a ten-year period, for a 20
4747 period of not less than six months or more than one year. 21
4848 Statement of Purpose:
4949 To increase penalties for speeding and reckless driving.
