1818 AN ACT CONCERNING A RAILROAD CROSSING FOR PEDESTRIANS
1919 AND BICYCLISTS TO CROSS THE HOUSATONIC RAILROAD AT
2020 GRADE.
2121 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2222 Assembly convened:

2424 That (1) the Department of Transportation install a railroad crossing 1
2525 for pedestrians and bicyclists, but not persons operating motorized 2
2626 vehicles, to cross the Housatonic Railroad at grade, (2) the cost of such 3
2727 installation and maintenance of the railroad crossing shall be borne by 4
2828 the town of Newtown, and (3) section 52-557 of the general statutes be 5
2929 amended to redefine "recreational purpose" to include using such 6
3030 railroad crossing and redefine "owner" to include the Housatonic 7
3131 Railroad and its successors. 8
3232 Statement of Purpose:
3333 To allow pedestrians and bicyclists to cross the Housatonic Railroad at
3434 grade and include the Housatonic Railroad as owners of land entitled to
3535 immunity under the Recreational Lane Use Act.
