AN ACT ESTABLISHING ADDITIONAL PENALTIES FOR CONVENIENCE STORES THAT ENGAGE IN UNLICENSED TOBACCO AND CANNABIS SALES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to provide that any 1 convenience store that engages in the unlicensed sale of any tobacco, 2 tobacco product, cannabis or cannabis product shall (1) for a second 3 offense during any twelve-month period, be required to pay a fine in an 4 amount that is twice the amount of the initial fine imposed on such 5 convenience store during such period, (2) for a third offense during any 6 twelve-month period, (A) be required to pay a fine in an amount that is 7 triple the amount of the initial fine imposed on such convenience store 8 during such period, and (B) cease operations for five days, (3) for a 9 fourth offense during any twelve-month period, (A) be required to pay 10 a fine in an amount that is triple the amount of the initial fine imposed 11 on such convenience store during such period, and (B) cease operations 12 for thirty days, and (4) for a fifth offense during any twelve-month 13 period, permanently cease operations. 14 Proposed Bill No. 6046 LCO No. 2828 2 of 2 Statement of Purpose: To establish additional penalties for convenience stores that engage in unlicensed tobacco and cannabis sales.
