AN ACT ESTABLISHING CASELOADS FOR PUBLIC DEFENDERS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
That section 51-293 of the general statutes be amended to require the 1
state to establish caseload limits for public defenders consistent with 2
current industry research and best practices. 3
Statement of Purpose:
To alleviate the burden placed on the state's public defenders who
experience high caseloads, making it difficult to provide adequate legal
representation to high-needs populations.
