AN ACT REQUIRING OWNERS OF SHORT -TERM RENTALS TO REGISTER IN A STATE-WIDE REGISTRY AND PAY A TAX ON UNITS THAT ARE NOT OWNER -OCCUPIED. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to require (1) the Department 1 of Revenue Services to establish a state-wide registry of short-term 2 rentals in the state, and (2) the owner of a short-term rental unit to 3 register with such registry and pay a tax on any such unit that is not 4 owner-occupied, provided the revenue from such tax be distributed as 5 follows: Fifty per cent to municipalities, twenty-five per cent to the state 6 to be provided to community action agencies for housing support 7 initiatives and twenty-five per cent to the Time to Own program. 8 Statement of Purpose: To require the owner of a short-term rental unit to register in a state- wide registry and pay a tax on such units that are not owner-occupied.
