AN ACT ALLOWING FOREIGN DENTISTS TO QUALIFY FOR LICENSURE AS A DENTAL HYGIENIST IN THE STATE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 379a of the general statutes be amended to allow 1 dentists trained outside of the United States to qualify for licensure as a 2 dental hygienist in the state, provided such dentist has been lawfully 3 practicing for not less than five years in a foreign country or province of 4 a foreign country and presents to the Department of Public Health a 5 certificate of licensure or registration and duration of dental practice 6 from such country's or province's board of dental examiners or a similar 7 licensure or registration entity and meets other competency 8 requirements, as established by the Commissioner of Public Health. 9 Statement of Purpose: To increase the workforce supply of dental hygienists in Connecticut to ensure essential oral health care for our residents by utilizing the skills that foreign dentists have acquired through training outside of the United States.
