1919 AN ACT EXCLUDING VETERANS' FEDERAL SERVICE -CONNECTED
2020 DISABILITY BENEFITS FOR PURPOSES OF ELIGIBILITY FOR
2121 ASSISTANCE FROM A PUBLIC DEFENDER.
2222 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2323 Assembly convened:

2525 That section 51-279 of the general statutes be amended to provide 1
2626 that, if a criminal defendant has requested representation by a public 2
2727 defender based on indigency, any determination as to such defendant's 3
2828 financial ability at the time of such request to secure competent legal 4
2929 representation and to provide other necessary expenses of legal 5
3030 representation shall disregard any service-connected disability benefits 6
3131 administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. 7
3232 Statement of Purpose:
3333 To exclude veterans' federal service-connected disability benefits from
3434 consideration when determining eligibility for assistance from a public
3535 defender based on indigency.
