| 25 | 25 | | Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2025) The State Building Inspector 1 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and the Codes and Standards Committee acting jointly, with the 2 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | approval of the Commissioner of Administrative Services, shall 3 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | establish a program to certify independent inspectors and independent 4 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | inspection firms to perform inspections under the State Building Code 5 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | for submission to a local building official. The program shall establish: 6 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (1) One or more classifications of independent inspectors and 7 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | independent inspection firms, specifying the duties, responsibilities, 8 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | minimum qualifications and insurance requirements for each 9 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | classification of inspector or firm; and (2) an oversight and audit 10 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | program administered by the State Building Inspector to ensure the 11 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | consistency and quality of inspections performed by certified inspectors 12 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and firms. The State Building Inspector may charge a reasonable fee to 13 |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | apply for certification, provided the commissioner may waive such fee 14 |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | for any person who applies, in the form and manner prescribed by the 15 |
