19	19		AN ACT CONCERNING THE ORDER OF GUBERNATORIAL
20	20		SUCCESSION UNDER CERTAIN PERMANENT AND TEMPORARY
21	21		CIRCUMSTANCES.
22	22		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
23	23		Assembly convened:

25	25		Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2025) (a) In case of the death, 1
26	26		resignation, refusal to serve or removal from office of the Governor and: 2
27	27		(1) There is a vacancy in the office of Lieutenant Governor such that 3
28	28		no person is able to succeed to the office of Governor in accordance with 4
29	29		subsection a. of article twenty-second of the amendments to the 5
30	30		Constitution of the state, and there is a vacancy in the office of president 6
31	31		pro tempore of the Senate such that no person is able to succeed to the 7
32	32		office of Lieutenant Governor in accordance with section 19 of article 8
33	33		fourth of the Constitution of the state, the speaker of the House of 9
34	34		Representatives shall, upon taking the oath of office of Governor, be 10
35	35		Governor of the state until another is chosen at the next regular election 11
36	36		for Governor and is duly qualified; 12

47	49		this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of Attorney General, the 19
48	50		Treasurer shall, upon taking the oath of office of Governor, be Governor 20
49	51		of the state until another is chosen at the next regular election for 21
50	52		Governor and is duly qualified; 22
51	53		(4) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivisions (1) to (3), 23
52	54		inclusive, of this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of Treasurer, 24
53	55		the Comptroller shall, upon taking the oath of office of Governor, be 25
54	56		Governor of the state until another is chosen at the next regular election 26
55	57		for Governor and is duly qualified; 27
56	58		(5) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivisions (1) to (4), 28
57	59		inclusive, of this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of 29
58	60		Comptroller, the Secretary of the State shall, upon taking the oath of 30
59	61		office of Governor, be Governor of the state until another is chosen at 31
60	62		the next regular election for Governor and is duly qualified; 32
61	63		(6) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivisions (1) to (5), 33
62	64		inclusive, of this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of Secretary 34
63	65		of the State, the majority leader of the House of Representatives shall, 35
64	66		upon taking the oath of office of Governor, be Governor of the state until 36
65	67		another is chosen at the next regular election for Governor and is duly 37
66	68		qualified; and 38
67	69		(7) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivisions (1) to (6), 39
68	70		inclusive, of this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of majority 40
69	71		leader of the House of Representatives, the majority leader of the Senate 41
70	72		shall, upon taking the oath of office of Governor, be Governor of the 42
71	73		state until another is chosen at the next regular election for Governor 43

79	83		(1) There is a vacancy in the office of Lieutenant Governor such that 47
80	84		no person is able to act as Governor in accordance with subsection b. of 48
81	85		article twenty-second of the amendments to the Constitution of the 49
82	86		state, and there is a vacancy in the office of president pro tempore of the 50
83	87		Senate such that no person is able to succeed to the office of Lieutenant 51
84	88		Governor in accordance with section 19 of article fourth of the 52
85	89		Constitution of the state, the speaker of the House of Representatives 53
86	90		shall exercise the powers and authority and perform the duties 54
87	91		appertaining to the office of Governor until, if the Governor has been 55
88	92		impeached, the Governor has been acquitted or, if absent, the Governor 56

90	94		(2) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivision (1) of this 58
91	95		subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of speaker of the House of 59
92	96		Representatives, the Attorney General shall exercise the powers and 60
93	97		authority and perform the duties appertaining to the office of Governor 61
94	98		until, if the Governor has been impeached, the Governor has been 62
95	99		acquitted or, if absent, the Governor has returned; 63
96	100		(3) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivisions (1) and (2) of 64
97	101		this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of Attorney General, the 65
98	102		Treasurer shall exercise the powers and authority and perform the 66
99	103		duties appertaining to the office of Governor until, if the Governor has 67
100	104		been impeached, the Governor has been acquitted or, if absent, the 68
101	105		Governor has returned; 69
102	106		(4) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivisions (1) to (3), 70
103	107		inclusive, of this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of Treasurer, 71

121	127		exercise the powers and authority and perform the duties appertaining 85
122	128		to the office of Governor until, if the Governor has been impeached, the 86
123	129		Governor has been acquitted or, if absent, the Governor has returned; 87

125	131		(7) In addition to the vacancies set forth in subdivisions (1) to (6), 89
126	132		inclusive, of this subsection, there is a vacancy in the office of majority 90

129	135		appertaining to the office of Governor until, if the Governor has been 93
