ROSARIO, 128th Dist. RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE HISTORICAL STEWARDSHIP OF NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITIES OF LAND IN THIS STATE. Resolved by this House: That this house (1) honor and recognize the historical stewardship of 1 the Native American communities that were the original inhabitants 2 and caretakers of the land in this state, (2) acknowledge the enduring 3 relationship between the Mohegan, Mashantucket Pequot, Eastern 4 Pequot, Schaghticoke, Golden Hill Paugussett, Nipmuc and Lenape 5 peoples and the land they have cared for over generations, and (3) foster 6 a greater understanding of Connecticut's rich and diverse cultural 7 heritage and appreciation for the resilience and cultural significance of 8 Native American peoples, but not seek to influence or imply federal 9 recognition or formal status. 10 Statement of Purpose: To recognize Native American stewardship, promote historical awareness and cultivate respect and appreciation for the resilience and cultural significance of Native American peoples.
