(By Request) AN ACT CONCERNING A STUDY OF THE STATE'S CURRENT LAWS REGARDING REPEAT OFFENDERS OF LAWS PROHIBITING DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection 1 study and report to the General Assembly on the state's current laws 2 regarding repeat offenders of laws prohibiting driving under the 3 influence, including (1) establishing ways to strengthen such laws, (2) 4 establishing mandatory penalties, including minimum terms of 5 imprisonment, (3) confiscating the vehicles of such offenders, (4) 6 revoking the driver's licenses of such offenders, (5) requiring such 7 offenders to serve minimum terms of imprisonment before becoming 8 eligible for parole, (6) establishing ways to properly expedite legal 9 proceedings, and (7) escalating penalties for each successive offense. 10 Statement of Purpose: To study the state's current laws regarding repeat offenders of laws prohibiting driving under the influence in order to protect the public from impaired drivers.
