AN ACT REQUIRING MEDICAID COVERAGE FOR BONE MARROW AND STEM CELL TRANSPLANTS AND FDA -APPROVED GENE THERAPIES TO TREAT SICKLE CELL DISEASE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That title 17b of the general statutes be amended to require the 1 Commissioner of Social Services to provide Medicaid coverage for bone 2 marrow and stem cell transplants and gene therapy approved by the 3 Food and Drug Administration to treat sickle cell disease. 4 Statement of Purpose: To provide equitable access to life-changing medical advancements to treat sickle cell disease, ameliorate suffering and reduce long-term health care costs.
