1 1 2 Councilmember Anita Bonds 3 AN ACT 4 5 6 7 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 8 9 ____________________ 10 11 12 To amend, on a temporary basis, the District of Columbia Election Code of 1955, to repeal the 13 requirement that the Board of Elections divide the District into voting precincts every 14 five years. 15 16 BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 17 act may be cited as the “Election Precinct Modernization Temporary Amendment Act of 2024”. 18 Sec. 2. The District of Columbia Election Code of 1955, approved August 12, 1955 (69 19 Stat. 669; D.C. Official Code § 1-1001.01 et seq.), is amended as follows: 20 (a) Section 5(a) (D.C. Official Code § 1-1001.05(a)(8)) is amended as follows: 21 (1) Paragraph (8) is amended to read as follows: 22 “(8) Divide the District into voting precincts, the boundaries of which shall be 23 aligned with the boundaries of each single-member district within each Advisory Neighborhood 24 Commission area;”. 25 (2) A new paragraph (4A) is added to read as follows: 26 “(4A) Publish final elections results at the city-wide, ward, Advisory Neighborhood 27 Commission area, and single-member district levels;”. 28 2 Sec. 3. Fiscal impact statement. 29 The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement of the Budget Director as the fiscal impact 30 statement required by section 4a of the General Legislative Procedures Act of 1975, approved 31 October 16, 2006 (120 Stat. 2038; D.C. Official Code § 1-301.47a). 32 Sec. 5. Effective date. 33 (a) This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of 34 veto by the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), a 30-day period of congressional 35 review as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved 36 December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the 37 District of Columbia Register. 38 (b) This act shall expire after 225 days of its having taken effect. 39
