_____________________________ 1 Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A BILL 10 11 __________ 12 13 14 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 15 16 __________________ 17 18 To establish a storage facility subsidy program for seniors that will provide financial 19 assistance to cover their storage facility fees. 20 21 BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 22 23 act may be cited as the “Senior Citizens’ Storage Facility Subsidy Act of 2024”. 24 25 Sec. 2. Storage facility subsidy program for senior citizens. 26 27 (a) There is established a storage facility fee subsidy program for senior citizens 28 29 which shall be administered through a partnership between the mayor and DACL; 30 31 (b) The fund shall consist of revenue from appropriated funds, grants, donations 32 33 or gifts from public and private sources; 34 35 (c) After reasonable expenses funds shall be used to subsidize storage facility 36 37 costs for low-income seniors paying more than 35% of their incomes on housing costs; 38 39 (d) DACL shall file quarterly reports with the District of Columbia Council on 40 41 activities and expenditures. 42 43 Sec. 3. Fiscal impact statement. 44 45 The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement in the committee report as the 46 2 fiscal impact statement required by section 4a of the General Legislative Procedures Act 47 48 of 1975, approved October 16, 2006 (120 Stat. 2038; D. C. Official Code § 1-301.47a). 49 50 Sec. 4. Effective date. 51 52 This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto 53 54 by the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), a 30-day period of 55 56 congressional review as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home 57 58 Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1- 59 60 206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the district of Columbia Register. 61
