16- anniversary of its high school All-American
17-basketball game in the District of Columbia.
18-WHEREAS, Capital Classic has for 50 years put on an All-American High School
19-basketball game hosted in Metropolitan Washington;
20-WHEREAS, Capital Classic showcases Metropolitan Washington’s Basketball All-
21-Americans and pits them against All- Americans from around the country to showcase their skills
22-in an All-Star game;
23-WHEREAS, Capital Classic has a history of showcasing some of the best basketball
24-players of a generation with alumni including Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and
25-locals such as Patrick Ewing , Len Bias and Grant Hill;

27-WHEREAS, Capital Classic offers the H igh School players not only a basketball
28-experience but a chance to experience the nation’s capital with visits to the Smithsonian Museum
29-of African American History, the White House or the US Capitol;
30-WHEREAS, Capital Classic not only hosts an All-Star game but also gives back to
31-community through areas such as basketball, fitness and life skills, utilizing their notable alumni
32-as mentors and educators;
33-WHEREAS, Capital Classic this year will make the Boys and Girls Club of Washington
34-DC a recipient of their charitable endeavors;
35-WHEREAS, Capital Classic has cultivated a reputation as a respected community
36-showcase within the District of Columbia and across the country as a showcase for the best that Metropolitan Washington and the rest of the country has to offer in High School basketball; and
