19-championship on Sunday, March 5, 2023;
20- WHEREAS, four players for Bard scored in double figures in the championship
21-game, including Nate Pondexter with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Steven Lamar with 12
22-points, and Damari Thompson with 11 points and the shot that gave his team the lead very late in the game, while Kwari Harvey had 8 points and 9 assists;
23- WHEREAS, Bard defeated Banneker Academic High School, 63- 60, and Idea
24-Public Charter School, 58- 53, in the DCSAA playoffs to reach the Class A title game;

26-WHEREA, Bard defeated McKinley Technology HS, 54- 44, to win the District of
27-Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) boys basketball championship on
28-Saturday, February 18, 2023;
29- WHEREAS, DeAngelo Fogle scored 18 points and earned the Game MVP honors;

31-WHEREAS, Bard, seeded fifth in the DCIAA playoffs, accomplished 3 straight
32-upsets to win the title, defeating fourth- seeded Anacostia High School, 69- 68, and top-
33-seeded Jackson-Reed High School, 71- 65, before their win against third- seeded McKinley
34-Tech;
35- WHEREAS, Bard finished the season with a 24 -7 record and won its first-ever
36-DCIAA and DCSAA boys basketball championships, respectively, in its first year in its new school in Ward 8;
37- WHEREAS, head coach and athletic director Malcolm Battle has been a successful

43-RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
44-resolution may be cited as the “Bard High School Early College DC DCIAA and DCSAA
45-Basketball Championship Ceremonial Recognition Resolution of 2023”.

47- Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors and celebrates the contributions of
48-Bard High School Early College DC to the District and the surrounding Ward 8 community and
49-congratulates them on winning the 2023 DCIAA and DCSAA Class A championships for boy’s
50-basketball.
