20- WHEREAS, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse, which
21-was opened by George Katinas in 1948 at the corner of 17th Street, N.W. and Church Street
22-N.W. in Washington, D.C.;

24-WHEREAS, Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse moved in 1985 from 17th Street, N.W., and

40+ WHEREAS, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse, which 33

27- WHEREAS, Annie Kaylor, sister of George Katinas, began working in the restaurant in
28-1952 and her name was added to Paramount Steakhouse in the early 1960s;

30- WHEREAS, Annie Kaylor was a neighborhood icon who was respected and loved for the
31-sense of community and fellowship she created in the restaurant, the neighborhood, and the
32-LGBTQQIA+ community through her unwavering support;

34-WHEREAS, Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse has been a champion for the LGBTQQIA+
35-community, providing an accepting and loving atmosphere as well as being an early sponsor of
36-the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C., a continuous presence at the annual Capital Pride
37-Parade, and a recipient of the Rainbow History Project’s Community Pioneer Award;

39-WHEREAS, Annie’s Steakhouse has created a distinctive gathering spot providing
40-delicious food, a sense of belonging, and a communal spirit;

42-WHEREAS, the restaurant earned the prestigious James Beard America’s Classics
43-Award in 2019 for its “timeless appeal… and quality food”; and

45-WHEREAS, George Katinas’ son, Paul , and his family are continuing the Annie’s
46-Paramount Steakhouse legacy to this day through the traditions of community, affirmation, and

50-RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
51-resolution may be cited as the “Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse 75th Anniversary Celebration
52-Recognition Resolution of 2023”.

54- Sec. 2. The Council recognizes and honors Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse on it s 75th
55-anniversary for its exceptional contributions to the LGBTQQIA+ community, the Dupont Circle
56-neighborhood, and the District at large.

58- Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
