14-To recognize and honor the contributions that Grace J. Lewis has made to the District of
15-Columbia throughout her career in public service.

17-WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has served the District of Columbia as a distinguished public
18-servant in her professional career and throughout her personal time;

20-WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has been a Ward 5 resident and advocate throughout her career
21-serving as an ANC Commissioner, a staffer in the Ward 5 DC Council office, and on the Ward 5
22-Democrats;
23-
24-WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has hosted numerous annual events to bring together the Ward
25-5 and broader District of Columbia Community together, including back -to-school supply drives,
26-Thanksgiving luncheons for Seniors, Halloween events for children, Valentine’s Day luncheons
27-for seniors, scholarship night s, and community day s;
28-
29-WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has committed herself to the betterment of the North Michigan
30-Park Community as a c o-founder of the Friends of North Michigan Park organization, dedicated
31-to addressing the needs of the North Michigan Park Community in Ward 5 ;
32-
33-WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has brought numerous improvements to the North Michigan
34-Park neighborhood such as the c onstruction of the North Michigan Park Recreation Center,
35-important issues for Providence Hospital, and the installation of welcome signs for North Michigan
36-Park;

38-WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has served on numerous committees to ensure that her
39-community’s voice and concerns were heard, including the Metro Green Line to Maryland
40-Committee, Bertie Backus Middle School Conversion Committee, and the Hospital Center
41-Community Advisory Council; and
42-
43-WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has served the residents of the District of Columbia with a
44-steadfast dedication to improving their quality of life.

50-RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, T hat this
51-resolution may be cited as the “Grace J. Lewis Recognition Resolution of 2023.”

53-Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Grace J . Lewis for
54-her years of dedicatio n to the District of Columbia .

56-Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
