18-WHEREAS, Travis Dread -Hughes was born in St. Louis, Missouri and later moved to
19-Alton, Illinois and Washington, D.C.;
20- WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes attended Carr Lane School, Alton Senior High School,
21-and Southern Illinois University, where he earned Bachelor of Science and Master in Education degrees;
22- WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes served as Associate Director and Deputy Project
23-Director for the Tobacco Free Families Campaign of the American Lung Association of the District of Columbia from 2007 to 2009;
24- WHEREAS, Mr. Dread Hughes served as a Certified Addiction Counselor and
25-Compliance Specialist for the District Department of Health’s Addiction Prevention Recovery
26-Administration from 2009 to 2015;
27- WHEREAS, since 2015, Mr. Dread- Hughes has served as a Behavioral Training
28-Specialist and Community Outreach Specialist with the District Department of Behavioral Health;

30- WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes has achieved certifications in Addition Counseling,
31-Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Tobacco Treatment, Co- Occurring Disorder Capability Training,
32-and Mental Health First Aid;

34- WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes is the recipient of awards recognizing his work,

48-Purple House, Black House, and Consistory. Mr. Dread-Hughes is also a member of the
49-Shriners;

51- WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes is a cancer survivor;

53- WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes lives by the motto “do unto others as you would have
54-them do unto you – help somebody,” and lives it every day as he provides critical support to
55-vulnerable District families and communities.

57- RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
58-resolution may be cited as the “Travis Dread-Hughes Recognition Resolution of 202 3”.

60-Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and thanks Ward 8 resident
61-Travis-Dread-Hughes for his service to the District and dedication to improving health
