14-To recognize and thank Ward 8 resident Sandra Renee Chambers for her dedication to social
15-justice and tenure as president of the New York- Washington Missionary Society.

17-WHEREAS, Sandra Renee Chambers is a native of Salisbury North Carolina, and has
18-been a District resident for over 40 years ;

20- WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has been a community advocate for residents in historic
21-Anacostia for over thirty years;

23-WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has represented the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in
24-work with the National Council of Negro Woman and Affiliate Bread for the World- Pan African
25-Women;
26-
27- WHEREAS, Ms. Chamber’s commitment to public service included a career in the
28-federal civil service , retiring after a distinguished career of 46 years at the Social Security
29-Administration;

31- WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has led hundreds of young women and adults in addressing
32-hunger, health disparities, voting rights, and missionary work;
33-
34-WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has led letter writing campaigns resulting in over 30,000
35-letters being written and sent to leaders to elected officials ;
36-WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers was elected president of the New York Washington Region
37-Missionary Service, leading the missionary work of 54 churches in Maryland, Delaware, New
38-Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina;

40-WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers eight-year presidency of the New York -Washington Region
41-Missionary Society concludes in July 2023.

43- RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
44-resolution may be cited as the “Sandra Renee Chambers Recognition Resolution of 202 3”.

50-Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and thanks Ward 8 resident
51-Sandra Renee Chambers for her commitment to social justice, charitable contributions, and
