Gray Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. 10 11 12 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 13 14 _______ 15 16 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 17 18 _______ 19 20 To recognize and honor Bruce Baschuk for his commitment to the Georgetown community and 21 numerous contributions to the District of Columbia and its businesses, residents, youth, 22 and visitors. 23 24 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk founded the J Street Companies in 1995, a boutiq25 estate services firm whose work has successfully developed and managed projects throughout the 26 greater Washington, D.C., Dallas/Fort Worth, and Chicago metropolitan areas; 27 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk has made enormous civic contributions to the District of 28 Columbia; 29 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk served as the president of Jubilee Enterprises, an 30 organization that redeveloped more than 1,300 residential units in Southeast Washington, D.C.; 31 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk coached youth lacrosse and founded WINNERS Lacrosse, a 32 non-profit inner-city organization that mentors boys and girls in Washington, D.C.; 33 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk served as the President of the Washington, D.C., Board of 34 Realtors; 35 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk co-founded and chaired the Board of the NoMa Business 36 Improvement District (BID); 37 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk served as a Trustee of the Federal City Council; 38 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk joined the Board of Directors of the Georgetown Business 39 Improvement District (“Georgetown BID”) in 2011; 40 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk co-chaired the Georgetown 2028 Task Force, working with 41 over 200 community members and organizations to develop a consensus strategic Action Agenda 42 to preserve, fix and enhance the Georgetown commercial district; 43 WHEREAS, Bruce Baschuk successfully helped lead the Georgetown BID to survive and 44 come out of the pandemic in a strong position; 45 WHEREAS Bruce Baschuk is retiring as Chair of the Georgetown BID Board after 8 46 years of outstanding leadership and service in this position, while continuing to serve on the 47 Georgetown BID Board. 48 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 49 resolution may be cited as the “Bruce Baschuk Recognition Resolution of 2023”. 50 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors and celebrates Bruce Baschuk for 51 the extraordinary impact he has made in the Georgetown community, the District of Columbia, 52 the commercial real estate industry, and with city youth through his hard work and dedication to 53 making our city a better place for everyone. 54 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 55 the District of Columbia Register. 56
