9-To recognize two young residents of Ward 3, Lenox Serrette and Nathan Ehrenberg, for their
10-recent achievements in the world of chess.
11-WHEREAS, Lenox Serrette is a Ward 3 resident and a student at Alice Deal Middle
12-School;
13-WHEREAS, Lenox Serrette has represented the District in the Rockefeller Tournament of
14-Elementary Champions for 4 consecutive years , and at the 2023 tournament, Lenox placed
15-thirteenth out of fifty-one competitors, earning the title of the top-scoring player with a US Chess
16-Federation rating under 1500;
17-WHEREAS, at age eleven, Lenox Serrette has demonstrated immense talent and potential
18-in the game of chess;
19-WHEREAS, Nathan Ehrenberg is a Ward 3 resident and a student at School Without
20-Walls;
21-WHEREAS, this year, at age fourteen, Nathan Ehrenberg became the youngest US Chess
22-Federation-certified “Local” Tournament Director in the history of the District, Maryland, and
23-Virginia;
24-WHEREAS, Nathan Ehrenberg has demonstrated a deep commitment to the creation and
25-growth of a vibrant chess community in the District; and
26-WHEREAS, the achievements of Lenox Serrette and Nathan Ehrenberg serve to inspire t he
27-youth of the District to pursue their passions.
28-RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
29-resolution be cited as the “Lenox Serrette and Nathan Ehrenberg Achievements in Chess
30-Ceremonial Recognition Resolution of 2023”. ENROLLED ORIGINAL

34-Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Lenox Serrette and
35-Nathan Ehrenberg for their achievements in the world of chess.
36-Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
