ENROLLED ORIGINAL 1 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 25-134 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA October 3, 2023 To recognize John “DJ Kool” Bowman for his musical and cultural achievements during a 45- year career in the entertainment industry, including significant contributions as a DJ, recording artist, and producer. WHEREAS, John “DJ Kool” Bowman was born in Southeast DC in 1958 and is a lifelong DC resident; WHEREAS, Mr. Bowman began his career as a disc jockey in 1977, at the age of 19 years old; WHEREAS, Mr. Bowman released his first single in 1986, with a track entitled, The Music Ain’t Loud Enuff; WHEREAS, Mr. Bowman achieved critical success with the release of another single, Let Me Clear My Throat, which charted internationally on the Billboard Hot 100 and in the top ten of charts in the Netherlands and United Kingdom, and has sold over 600,000 copies to date, and has been featured in movies, live athletic events, and many other settings; WHEREAS, Mr. Bowman has collaborated and performed with many iconic artists over his 45 year career, including Biz Markie, Doug E, Fresh, KRS-One, Slick Rick, Uncle Luke, Chubb Rock, and many others; WHEREAS, Mr. Bowman is in his 45 th year as a working musician and artist within the hip-hop genre, and regularly performs throughout the United States and Europe; WHEREAS, Mr. Bowman is recognized globally as an iconic contributor to the hip- hop genre, having influenced the genre over 4 decades; WHEREAS, Mr. Bowman released 4 albums during his career and has sold over a million copies of music to fans all over the world . RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited as the “DJ Kool Recognition Resolution of 202 3”. ENROLLED ORIGINAL 2 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and thanks John “DJ Kool” Bowman for his artistic contributions to the District and the genre of hip- hop. Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
