IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
March 5, 2024
To recognize, honor, and congratulate the Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Girls
Basketball Program for winning their 5
th
consecutive DCIAA City Championship.
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School is historically the first public high
school for Colored people and is located on the Corner of N & First street in Ward 5, with its High
School motto being ‘Enter to learn, Depart to serve’;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Girls Basketball team had back-
to-back DCIAA City Championships wins;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Girls Basketball Team finished
the year with a winning record for the 5
th
consecutive season;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Gir ls Basketball Team DCIAA
Champions took home several Conference honors including All -League, Player of the Year, MVP
of the 2024 DCIAA Girls Basketball Championships ;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Basketball Team DCIAA title
drew recognition from Washington Post, DCP S, and Council Members;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Basketball team has continued to
promote high- character student-athletes and great sportsmanship;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High Girls Basketball Team coaching staff
consists of Head Coach BreAnna Gross and Demauria Liles.
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Girls Basketball Team was also
supported by two student-managers, Adriana Frazier, Chaniya Rowell .
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Girls Basketball Team is led by
New Head Coach, BreAnna Gross;

WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School Head Coach, BreAnna Gross is
the runner up of the 2024 DCIAA Coach of the Year presented by the DCIAA;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School and Head Coach, BreAnna Gross
are dedicated to advocate for legislation to increase the amount of access for underserved
communities;
WHEREAS, Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School DCIAA Girls Basketball
championship- winning team members include:

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, T hat this
resolution may be cited as the “Dunbar High School Girls Basketball 2023-2024 DCIAA,
Championship Recognition Resolution of 2024.”
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the Dunbar High
School Girls Basketball team for winning the 2023- 2024 DCIAA Basketball Championship.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
