11-To recognize the brave and attentive workers at the Baby Einstein Child Development Center,
12-who safely evacuated 16 infants and children from the premises mere minutes before a
13-gas leak caused an explosion and the collapse of the neighboring building on January 18,
14-2024.
15-WHEREAS, the Baby Einstein Child Development Center, located at 1225 Marion Barry
16-Avenue Southeast, su stained serious damage after a gas explosion;
17-
18-WHEREAS, Regina Snead, owner of Baby Einstein Child Development Center, and
19-other staff smelled gas and immediately leapt into action to evacuate 16 children and infants
20-minutes before the explosion;
21-WHEREAS, all of the children evacuated safely as a result of the vigilance, organization,
22-and direction of Baby Einstein Child Development Center’s staff; and
23-WHEREAS, Baby Einstein Child Development Center has provided District families in
24-Anacostia affordable, convenient, and consistent childcare for over 10 years and continues to
25-provide childcare for families at a temporary site until the facility can be rebuilt.
26-RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
27-resolution may be cited as the “Baby Einstein Child Development Center Staff Recognition
28-Resolution of 2024”.
29-Sec. 2. The Council recognizes the heroic actions of the Baby Einstein Child
30-Development Center’s staff on January 18, 2024.
31-Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
