A CEREMONAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
May 7, 2024
To recognize Father Peter Weigard for his 60 years of service at the St. Anselm's Abbey Scho l.
WHEREAS, Union Wesley African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (“Union Wesley AME
Zion Church”) began in Georgetown in 1844;
WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigard was born in 1941 and raised in Wisconsin;
WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigard arrived at St. Anselm’s Abbey June 20, 1964;
WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigard was ordained a priest in May 1970;
WHEREAS, in 1999 Father Peter Weigard won the Principal of the Year award for the District of
Columbia;
WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigard co -founded the National Capital Cactus and Succulent Society
in 1980, and it meets every 3
rd
Sunday in the school;
WHEREAS, F ather Peter Weigard has taught science in the school for 54 consecutive years;
WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigard currently teaches Physical Anthropology, Native American
Studies, and Earth Science; and
WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigard has held many positions at the St. Anselm Abbey’s School and
Monastery including Second Master, Headmaster, President, and Grounds Master.
IT IS HEARBY RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That
this resolution may be cited as the “Father Peter Weigard’s 60th Anniversary Recognition Resolution of
2024”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and celebrates Father Peter Weigard
on the occasion of his 60
th
anniversary for hi s outstanding commitment, dedication, and service to his
members and the community.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
