24+ To recognize and commemorate the Institute of Gerontology at the University of the 21
25+District of Columbia on 44 years of service to the senior citizen community in the District. 22

27+ WHEREAS, the Institute of Gerontology at the University of the District of Columbia 24
28+has been a beacon of service, knowledge and support for our senior community for 44 years; 25

30+WHEREAS, the Institute of Gerontology has played a pivotal role in advancing the well-27
31+being of the urban elderly by introducing a plethora of different programs to meet their needs; 28

33+WHEREAS, the Institute of Gerontology has been a cornerstone of volunteerism, 30
34+recruiting and training thousands of senior volunteers who have provided invaluable 31
35+companionship, assistance with errands, and essential services to their fellow seniors in the 32

38+WHEREAS, the Senior Companion and Respite Aide volunteer program has successfully 35
39+improved the lives of seniors, with dedicated volunteers offering over 87,000 hours of 36
40+community service in 2023 alone, contributing to the overall health and vitality of the 37

45-may be cited as the “UDC Institute of Gerontology Recognition Resolution of 202 4.”

47- Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia hereby honors and recognize s the Institute of
48-Gerontology at the University of the District of Columbia for the dedication of their volunteers to
49-enhancing the quality of life for the elderly and promoting a culture of community service and lifelong
50-learning for the past 44 years.
51- Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

57+resolution may be cited as the “UDC Institute of Gerontology Recognition Resolution of 2024.” 52
